A PPSR check in Queensland helps used-car buyers see whether a security interest is recorded against a vehicle, which may mean money is owing and the car could be repossessed. It can also show recorded stolen and written-off status, but it does not tell you the amount owing, the owner history, odometer reading, fines, or mechanical condition.
- Search by VIN or chassis number before paying
- Keep the PPSR certificate as a record
- Use PPSR with rego, service history, and inspection checks

Get buying supportWhat a PPSR search can show
- Whether a security interest is recorded against the VIN or chassis number
- Basic vehicle details such as make, model and colour where available
- Written-off status where that information is recorded
- Stolen status where that information is recorded
- A search certificate you can keep as a record of the result
What PPSR does not show
- The amount of finance still owing
- The registered owner's full history
- The current odometer reading
- Outstanding fines or tolls
- Whether the car has hidden mechanical problems
Use PPSR as one part of the buying decision
This is a high-traffic due-diligence page. The conversion path is buyer support, not pretending PPSR alone makes the car safe.
Before the inspection
Ask for the VIN, run the PPSR search, check QLD registration, and compare the details with the listing.
If finance is recorded
Do not hand over money until payout and settlement are clear. A security interest needs careful handling.
If the search is clean
Still inspect the car, check service records, test drive it, and consider a mechanic for higher-risk vehicles.
